Oakland almost lost one of it’s unofficial landmarks a few weeks ago, after over 100 years in business this downtown super newstand almost shut it’s doors for good… which would have been a horrible shame. In the end, on the same day they were to shut their doors, City (Officials) Angels came to the rescue.
Now they’re working on a plan to help rebuild the business… but in the meantime if you’re in Oakland or near by – by stop in, help them out… pick up a magazine or a book. They have magazines and newspapers from all over the world… definately worth stopping by and taking a look.
They’re open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – never closed a single day… beat those hours! I remember in high school when I had recondo training at 5am on Saturday mornings I had to catch the bus at 3:30am or so and transfer in downtown I was scared, so I’d stand in their door way and wait for the bus to come… aaahhh the good ol’days.
